CASE STUDY:

Local swimming baths

LOCATION:

Tiverton, Devon

JOB SPEC:

This local swimming baths was situated below the water table.
The boilers were located on the ground floor and the pumps were located in the basement. A boiler cracked leaking a substantial volume of heating fuel which travelled through the surrounding walls with ground water and into the basement. The oil was automatically pumped out via a sump pump directly into the foul water system.Heavy rainfall increased the level of ground water which aided the oil’s migration into the basement.

MCS responded to the spill and immediately stopped any more oil being pumped out into the foul water. A temporary interceptor was installed to intercept any further oil migrating through the wall.
All areas were thoroughly cleaned and all contaminants were disposed accordingly.
The interceptor remained in use until all of the leaked oil had migrated from the surrounding walls and was safely stored for collection.
